My roommates nephew died unexpectedly, and she’s flying out for an emergency flight to Ohio today. I had to make arrangements with her for taking care of her cat, and some heating work she’s having done on our house this week. Be in shortly - shouldn’t be too much later than about 10ish.

Timing
I rarely write posts, but I did yesterday. About Apple’s iPhone 4S launch of all things. An hour or so later we learned the Steve Jobs passed away.
I don’t have much to add that won’t be said and that we don’t already know. The world benefitted tremendously from his vision and execution and I’m thankful for the amount of time we had with him on this planet.

Tim Cook's base hit
Many were disappointed by Apple’s product announcements yesterday, in particular the lack of an iPhone 5. I was happy with the announcement and I think people will see the improvement, much like we did with the iPad 2. People thought that was a weak release and yet it made the iPad an amazing device for me.
There are lots of theories as to why the iPhone 5 wasn’t released....

I don’t want it in the cloud. Sorry Ducksboard, Geckoboard, Chart.io. You all look great. But I want to host it myself. What are my options?

The top 5 are losing ground for the simplest of reasons: Competition from newcomers (like OpenDNS)

Anonymous asked: If someone had the qualifications and experience you were seeking as an assistant, would you age discriminate if they are in their 40's? In other words, could you handle working with someone side by side who is older, yet wiser?
tismatty-deactivated20120315 asked: I recently upgraded to 30Mb Broadband with an ISP called Virgin Media in the United Kingdom. They force on you this so called Modem/Router combination called the "SuperHub". I wanted to change my DNS to OpenDNS and found out you can't set your own DNS router side! Do you agree that this is kind of selfish of them? You are forced to use there own DNS services!
Anonymous asked: Just wanted to say thank you so much for EveryDNS! This enabled me to get some invaluable experience in understanding how the internet works. I wish you the best in your new endeavors!
Anonymous asked: Do you believe its fair that EveryDNS users who used have been using it for years now have to pay for it because there isn't a alternative quite like it?

Anonymous asked: Can you make it so DNS isn't so much of a black magic? Seriously, I've been trying to refresh this domain's AAAA records for a while and it doesn't work! Googled for a solution, one site took me to another and here I am complaining on someone's tumblr. Sorry 'bout that!

Anonymous asked: You say that OpenDNS has been profitable since 2007. Is this based directly on ad money, and how has the addition of Deluxe and Enterprise to your 'features' changed this. Also, what kind of hardware does it take to serve up 26 billion requests per day? And, if the next server is going to be in or around Asia, what kind of response do you expect in terms of requests, and how do you...
