Nope.
I didn’t say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you. — Some of My Favorite One Liners

Yes, Teghi, it can.

Anonymous asked: Do you plan to make OpenDNS also an authoritative DNS service in the (near) future?
1) What’s your definition of near?
2) RD=0 or RD=1, is there really that big of a difference?
Very annoying non-answer. I’m sorry. Guess I can’t answer everything here. Wait and see. :-)
Anonymous asked: funny....can ask you anything but you don't answer everything! figures!
That’s not a question!
Anonymous asked: What advice do you have for young people considering the possibility of skipping college?
Don’t skip it. If you can find a way, go to a four year university, major in something you find super interesting and get involved in every activity you can. Talk to your professors, live on campus and read constantly. I studied Anthropology which I always found exceptionally interesting and I was involved in a number of campus activities.
I shaped a lot of my world-views in college and wouldn’t trade that time for anything. Four years goes by fast, and there’s always time to work later. I started a company Freshman year, and it wasn’t hard to manage both.
Anonymous asked: If someone had the qualifications and experience you were seeking as an assistant, would you age discriminate if they are in their 40's? In other words, could you handle working with someone side by side who is older, yet wiser?
Of course I wouldn’t. I have lots of people who work for me who are older than me. I don’t care what age people are as long as they are smart, passionate, diligent, tenacious, and of course, wise.
And for what it’s worth, I hired someone who fits the “older and wiser” description and I can’t wait to begin working with her and learning from her. :-)
tismatty asked: I recently upgraded to 30Mb Broadband with an ISP called Virgin Media in the United Kingdom. They force on you this so called Modem/Router combination called the "SuperHub". I wanted to change my DNS to OpenDNS and found out you can't set your own DNS router side! Do you agree that this is kind of selfish of them? You are forced to use there own DNS services!
I'll be posting on there community forums until they allow the use of OpenDNS!
Yes, it’s terrible. ATT DSL (2Wire hardware) in the US is the same way.
Anonymous asked: Just wanted to say thank you so much for EveryDNS! This enabled me to get some invaluable experience in understanding how the internet works. I wish you the best in your new endeavors!
Thanks! Really appreciate the kind words.
Anonymous asked: Do you believe its fair that EveryDNS users who used have been using it for years now have to pay for it because there isn't a alternative quite like it?
Fair is relative. I ran the service as best I could for almost nine years. It became the largest in the world, but it was also a major time sink for me. I delivered a tremendous amount of value at no cost for a lot of people (200,000+ tech folks). I found a way to do it, and when I came to a point where it was becoming a distraction from other things I wanted to accomplish, I sold it. Do I think that was fair of me to do? Yes, I think it was very fair. I could have shut it down, started charging, etc.
The new owners have to manage it in the way they think best, and it seems like they are communicating their plans with lots of notice. They are also grandfathering in any users who were previous donators to EveryDNS with free service (minus a one-time $5 fee, which I think is reasonable). I think they have been fair in how they’ve managed the transition.
But, you didn’t ask if I think it’s frustrating there is no alternative to EveryDNS for people to migrate to. I do think that’s frustrating. Why don’t you start one? :-)
dweekly asked: Why do I love you so damn much?
It’s my charming personality, I’m sure — but don’t let Cassie know your true feelings for me or she might get jealous.
